Some preliminary statistics on #irlday – 23 may 2011

So we’re just starting to get over the twitlag and starting to working through what #irlday accomplished. Well, #irlday didn’t trend worldwide on Twitter. However, we did contribute significantly to Ireland and all things Irish trending worldwide that day (and for a few days after!). #obamavisit and #potusie soaked up a lot of traffic however #irlday both made a contribution to this traffic but more importantly contributed in a way that focussed on Irish tourism, hospitality and food etc and not just President Obama.

How many #irlday tweets were sent?

The good folks at Irish data extraction compny, Knexsy, compiled some of the #irlday stats for 23 May 2011. There were 12,803 #irlday tweets on the day including 4,856 ReTweets from 3,474 unique users. Of those unique users:

  • 60% sent 1 tweet
  • 15% sent 2
  • 25% sent 3+

Who tweeted on #irlday?

Knexsy estimate that on average the #irlday senders had:

  • 744 ‘followers’
  • 584 ‘friends’
  • been a Twitter user for 84 weeks
  • sent 3,476 tweets since joining Twitter

55% of senders have a URL in their profile details and 30% listed Dublin in their profile. The latter is quite interesting because it indicates a cross-country mobilisation and not just Dublin.

The #irlday senders used over 990 unique hashtags on the day (23 May) in their tweets. The Top 2o included:

A number of tweets didn’t use the themed hashtags e.g. #irlsong, #irlfood however these proved very popular and many of the themed hashtags presented on the #irlday website trended in Ireland throughout #irlday highlighting specific items of interest about Ireland. The #irlday tweets included 2,010 unique mentions and 1,122 @replies on 23 May 2011.

As discussed there were 4,856 unique retweets on 23 May 2011. So what did people consider spreadworthy? Knexsy suggest the Top 20 #irlday retweets were:
